The Town of Superior is pleased to announce that construction on the long-awaited Panther Bridge is set to begin in February. Town of Superior Engineer Lana Clark has announced the date for the road closure of Panther Drive, as part of the Queen Creek Bridge Project: “Panther Drive will be officially closed for bridge construction on Tuesday, February 04, 2025. It is expected that the construction will last through April 2025.
“Motorists and pedestrians will need to stay out of the area. There will be heavy equipment operating in this area” explained Clark. The new Panther Drive bridge is expected to open in the Spring of 2025” she further explained.
The 3.5 million dollar, multimodal transportation project includes the construction of the bridge over Queen Creek. The design also includes pedestrian and bicyclist facilities. Additional improvements include improving creek slopes and deficient roadway geometry. Funding for the project was awarded by Governor Hobbs and the Arizona State Legislature.
The opening of the bridge is a milestone safety project for the Town. Once the bridge is completed, residents and public safety teams will no longer need to use detour routes to access shopping, medical appointments, school and work. Most importantly this will improve response times for the Town’s fire and emergency medical services.
Beginning Tuesday, February 04, 2025, Panther Drive will be closed until the work is completed. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of April, depending on weather and other factors.
Traffic Control closure signs and barricades will be placed at each end of Panther Drive as it crosses Queen Creek. These erosion and pollution control principles will serve as the foundation for the successful restoration of Panther Drive to its natural conditions. The removal of this at-grade crossing will reestablish riparian habitat.
The number one goal of this project has always been safety. The opening of the bridge and the temporary complete closure of Panther Drive are major steps towards that goal.
· A safe route to school for the students and teachers.
· Emergency access for firefighters, police, and all first responders
